So you want to learn to sword fight?
Our 6 week beginners courses are crafted to get you fighting safely, as soon as possible. Our experienced coaches will guide you through the fundamentals of swordplay so you feel confident taking what you've learnt onto the piste. Below is an outline of what you will learn week by week, all you need to bring is a bottle of water and be dressed for sports, we've got the rest covered. Week One
An Introduction to HEMA.
Here you will learn about what HEMA is, the kit used and how we at SHC 'do HEMA'. You will also learn how to fence safely and the rules to follow during a match.
Week Two
The Fundamentals of Fencing.
In week two you will continue to learn the fundamentals of fencing and the terms used. You will learn how to manage distance, basic attacks and how to counter them.
Week Three
An Introduction to Sword & Buckler.
Here you will learn the basics of Sword & Buckler, preform simple cuts and parries, the differences in stances and how to use them effectively.
Week Four
An Introduction to Longsword.
Week four will have you learning the fundamentals of the Longsword, how to make attacks whilst ensuring you're not hit in return!
Week Five
An Introduction to Sabre.
Week five is your crash course in Sabre! Learn to cut and thrust effectively and the dynamics of this elegant weapon.
Week Six
An Introduction to Rapier & Dagger.
Week six will find you learning the fundamentals of Rapier & Dagger. The differences in guard positions and the effects it has on the rapier during combat.
